CARDOZO SCHOOL OF LAW ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE OF MARCIA LEVY, ASSOCIATE DEAN OF THE OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES, APPOINTMENT OF PATRICIA MORRISSY AS INTERIM ASSOCIATE DEAN
October 21, 2014 – NEW YORK, NY – Dean Matthew Diller of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law has announced that Marcia Levy, Associate Dean of Career Services, has accepted a position as Executive Director of Pro Bono Partnership, and will leave her current position at the law school in November.
“Marcia Levy has done an outstanding job of connecting with our students and our career counselors, creating new opportunities for Cardozo students and graduates,” said Dean Diller. “Her energy and commitment to improving employment opportunities for all students here have had an impact, and she will be missed.”
Dean Diller has appointed Patricia Morrissy, a leading industry expert in legal recruitment, professional development and communications, as Interim Associate Dean of Career Services.
Morrissy’s distinguished career in the legal industry includes serving for seven years as the Chief Recruiting Officer for Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where she was in charge of the firm’s recruitment strategy and known for transforming their recruitment operations. During her tenure there, she led a number of talent-related initiatives, resulting in an increase of associate satisfaction posting by The American Lawyer magazine from 153 to 28 in two years.
Previously, Morrissy was the Legal Recruiting Director at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, as well as Chief Administrative Officer for the Legal & Compliance Department at Credit Suisse First Boston. Most recently, she served as a talent management consultant to a number of clients, including the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office and Ellevate.
“Patty Morrissy has extensive expertise in hiring practices within the legal field, and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in the current legal market,” said Dean Diller. “Her strategic and operational experience will be an asset to our students as she oversees Cardozo’s excellent team of career counselors.”
“I am thrilled to join Cardozo Law and work under Dean Diller’s leadership, to connect the school’s talented students and future leaders with employment opportunities, where they will thrive and excel. The team of counselors in the Office of Career Services are experts in their field, and I look forward to joining such a professional and well-regarded team.”
Levy’s accomplishments while at Cardozo Law include creating a number of highly successful jobs outreach programs, such as the Resident Associate Mentor Program (RAMP), which has provided opportunities for students to work as full-time associates at small- and medium-sized law firms and corporate legal departments. In addition, she founded the Center for Professional Development (CPD), which offers speakers and workshops designed to help students develop the skills needed to navigate the current legal market.
“It has been a wonderful experience to work with the talented staff in the Office of Career Service, our dynamic students, faculty and administration, and especially, Dean Matthew Diller,” said Levy. “Under his leadership, we have been able to create groundbreaking programs, which help our students develop the skills and experience that make them desirable to employers and enable them to succeed in their career paths. I am truly proud of the work that we have all done together.”
In her new capacity at the Pro Bono Partnership, Levy will recruit and mobilize attorneys from major corporations and law firms to provide pro bono business and transactional legal services to nonprofit organizations serving the disadvantaged in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. In the coming weeks, Dean Diller will appoint a search committee for the Associate Dean position in the Office of Career Services.
