Professor Lela Love discusses strategy with students Zack Beal '16, Kori Clanton '15 and Joenni Abrehu '16 right before the final round of the International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris.

Students Zack Beal '16, Kori Clanton '15 and Joenni Abrehu '16 traveled with Professor Lela Love to Paris to attend the International Commercial Mediation Competition (ICC) in Paris from February 5th-11, 2015. The students competed against 66 teams from around the world. In their rounds, they went up against countries ranging from Bulgaria to Israel. In addition, they had the opportunity to receive valuable feedback and network with world-renowned mediators from around the globe.

“I truly appreciate this once in a lifetime opportunity," said Beal. "I met like-minded students spanning six continents, and we were able to exchange thoughts about our culture, experiences, and negotiation strategies. Simultaneously, we had the ability to explore the beautiful city of Paris. Perhaps most of all, I realized that despite 'jurisdiction,' alternate dispute resolution is a fantastic field that knows no borders.”

In addition, Beal won 2nd place as a mediator in the Jeffery Abrams Mediation Competition at the University of Houston Law School on October 24-25, 2014. Cardozo Law's ADR Competition Team of Lara Traum '15 and Suleman Malik '16 also achieved 2nd place in the ABA Regional Representation in Mediation Competition hosted by New England School of Law on February 21 and 22, 2015.
