Dean Matthew Diller, Cardozo Professor Stanley Fish, and Justice Antonin Scalia pose with students.
On Wednesday, October 16, four illustrious thinkers discussed issues of interpretation in the event "Interpretation Matters: Engaging with Stanley Fish." Over the course of a long, distinguished and controversial career, Cardozo Professor Stanley Fish has interacted with numerous scholars from a variety of disciplines. His work cuts across many areas of intellectual life, but is united by an interest in the problem of interpretation.
Professor Fish, along with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Stanely Hauerwas, and Walter Benn Michaels discussed their differing, and sometimes similar, work on interpretation in front of a packed moot court room. Professor Peter Goodrich moderated. Students had the opportunity to interact with Justice Scalia and other panelists at a reception following the event.
