February 25, 2015 Women's Wear Daily - NEW YORK — Cardozo School of Law has established The FAME Center for study in fashion, arts, media and entertainment law.
The FAME Center will sponsor a lineup of spring events called Fashion Law Talks, designed to provide leadership in fashion law and other creative industries.
“The FAME Center and Fashion Law Talks will prepare our students for work with global businesses and international and local cultural institutions, on issues such as brand protection and management, and other legal challenges generated by the digital marketplace,” said Dean Matthew Diller. “No other law school offers this type of specialized curriculum, developed and regularly taught by experienced leaders in the industry.”
The FAME Center at Cardozo is overseen by Barbara Kolsun, executive vice president and general counsel of Stuart Weitzman, who teaches fashion law at Cardozo Law and wrote the textbook, “Fashion Law: A Guide for Designers, Fashion Executives and Attorneys,” and Lee Sporn, senior vice president of business affairs, general counsel and secretary at Michael Kors, who teaches fashion law as well as the fashion law practicum, an innovative joint program with Fashion Institute of Technology’s Global Fashion Management students. “In the era of social media and instant digital access, the FAME Center will train lawyers to guide clients through constantly evolving challenges in businesses driven by the creative process, whether that’s fashion, music or film,” Sporn said.
